Petrol bomb attack averted, 6 suspended

SRINAGAR, Dec 15: Workers of a candidate contesting DDC elections from Wavoora, Lolab today averted a planned petrol bomb attack by the sympathizers of a candidate in opposition during a workers meeting.
The workers who stated to have apprehended the duo have filed a complaint with the police, maintaining that two activists of an opponent candidate emerged during a meeting of the workers which was being addressed by one Wasim Majnoon Mir contesting on PAGD ticket.
The workers said that upon suspicion, these two men were frisked and two petrol bombs were recovered from their possession.
Those who have been apprehended by the workers were identified as Faisal Ahmad son of Ghulam Rasool Mir from Sever and Faisal Ahmad son of Abdul Gaffar Mir from Haden. Both have been handed over to the local police.
The police officials in the district said that they have recovered two petrol-filled bottles from the duo. They, however, said that nothing can be said for the sure. They added that the matter is being investigated.
Notably, the Wavoora block of the district is scheduled to go to polls on December 19.
Meanwhile, DPEO Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad today suspended six Government employees for dereliction of election duties in the district.
The suspended employees have been attached to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, while as an inquiry has been initiated.
