Potato futures gain 0.59 pc on strong demand

NEW DELHI, May 6:  Potato prices gained 0.59 per cent to Rs 965 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions supported by strong demand in the spot market against restricted arrivals from producing belts.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for delivery in July gained Rs 5.70, or 0.59 per cent, to Rs 965 per quintal in business turnover of 17 lots.
Likewise, the potato for delivery in June edged up by Rs 4.90, or 0.51 per cent, to Rs 975 per quintal in 27 lots.
Market experts said speculators enlarged their positions, supported by strong demand in the spot market due to ongoing marriage season amid restricted arrivals from producing belts, mainly led to rise in potato prices at futures trade. (PTI)
