KATHUA, May 5: Twelve kullas were destroyed in a devastating fire at Lakhanpur today.
According to reports nine kullas belonged to Gujjar families while three belonged to migrant labourers. The cause of the fire was reported short circuit due to blowing of fast winds.
All the house hold goods of the Gujjars and labourers were destroyed in the fire which was brought under control after the fire tenders rushed to the area from Kathua. However, no loss of life was reported as all the inmates of the kullas had managed to escape.
Meanwhile, wheat crop spreading over 30 acres and 12 kanals of land were destroyed in fire at two different places in Kathua district today while 250 bundles of wheat were also destroyed in fire in Hiranagar area.
Reports said standing wheat crop spreading over 30 acres of land was completely destroyed in fire at village Raipur Mawamadhoom in Kathua district today while in another fire incident the standing crop spreading over 12 kanals of land in Ghadiyal Hiranagar of the same district and 250 bundles of wheat in Mandian Hiranagar were destroyed in the fire causing a huge loss to farmers.
