KATHUA, May 1: On the directives of higher ups in Government, the Kathua administration today cut the wheat crop from 92 kanals of land which has been encroached by some influential people in village Karandi in Hiranagar tehsil today despite the stiff resistance shown by the supporters of encroachers.
A police party led by SHO Hiranagar under the supervision of Tehsildar Hiranagar and Naib Tehsildar Hiranagar along with carbine machines reached the area early in the morning to cut the crop from the Government land which has been encroached by some influential people. However, they were given a stiff resistance by the supporters land grabbers who warned to block the National Highway and launch a massive protest in case the crop from the land which belonged to them was cut forcibly.  They said that the land does not belong to any politician but to the local people, hence the authorities have no right to cut the crop.
This led to a stalemate for two hours. However, the authorities warned them that they have strict orders from the court of law to remove the encroachments and in case any one creates impediments in their way he will be arrested.
Later more reinforcement led by DySP Border M L Kaith reached the spot and started operation. The mob dispersed.
The protestors alleged that some more people have encroached the land which belonged to river Ujh who have cut their crop already and no action was taken against them.
