BJP leaders issuing misleading statements against Cong: Sawhney

JAMMU, Oct 20: Former minister and DCC Jammu Urban president Yogesh Sawhney has strongly criticised some of the BJP leaders for their statements against Congress calling them “absolutely absurd and illogical”.
In a press statement here Sawhney criticized the BJP for giving dramatic statements in an attempt to characterise the Congress party as the villain or the enemy.  “The BJP has devised a new type of politics in our country, one which spews hatred and venom and portrays anyone who stands against their despotic policies as anti-national; because it supports their narrative.”, said Sawhney.
He took at a dig at BJP’s “exploitative policies” and said that the BJP leadership should focus on talking about developmental issues rather than throwing around lies.
Stating that the BJP has become a “Tax Party”, Sawhney said that the Government is imposing irrelevant tax after tax in the UT and exploiting the public. The Home Minister promises to give back Statehood, however, their tax policies seem contradictory to this promise, as the Centre rolls out property tax, transport tax, several toll taxes among others. Also there’s a huge difference between excise duty in the other UT’s and UT of J&K. Further, the party had also criticised the Centre’s latest move that empowers the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to levy property taxes on land and buildings within municipal areas across the Union Territory but after massive protests by us the administration had to announce against it’s imposition.
Following the protests by Congress, the LG had declared no Property tax will be imposed, however, the administration had further remarked that the Urban Local Bodies are competent to decide on such issues in consultation with the public and for the development of the ULB’s themselves. On this, Sawhney expressed his concerns about the already waning economic growth in the UT which calls for relief measures and supportive policies. He said that the government, on the other hand, is adding to the proliferating economic stress by a potential imposition of newer taxes, such as increasing toll taxes among other exploitative regulations. He said cheap and misleading statements by BJP leaders are meant to distract people from their failures in Jammu.
