JAMMU, Apr 26: Hundreds of people today staged protest and blocked the Jammu-Poonch National Highway after the body of a shopkeeper was found in a field under mysterious circumstances in Akhnoor.
Vikram Singh, 30, alias Gabbar of village Ambaran, tehsil Akhnoor was found dead under mysterious circumstances by some passers-by, who informed his family and police.
Alleging it a murder, his family members, relatives and neighbours staged protest and blocked both the bridges on river Chenab thus disrupting the traffic for hours demanding arrest of the culprits. They were demanding immediate action against the culprits.
On the assurance of the police to provide justice, the protesters dispersed and traffic resumed on the highway.
According to a police spokesperson, a case in this regard has been registered at Police Station Akhnoor and the investigations are on.
He said that while the post mortem of the body has been done but the reports are awaiting.
