HC takes note of pollutant discharge

Srinagar, Sept 14: The High Court today treated a representation relating to effluent discharge by the industrial units into a water body as Public Interest and issued notice to authorities.
The representation was addressed to Chief Justice of the High Court by the Inhabitants of Hill View Colony, Old Air Field Road, Wanbal Rangreth Gagoo village and Wawoosa complaining therein the worst situation of a water body due to effluents emitted by the industrial units directly into the water body situated in the area.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Puneet Gupta in the first instance made Industries and Commerce Department, Pollution Control Board and Srinagar Municipal Corporation as party respondents into the PIL and issued notice to Commissioner Secretary, Member Secretary and Commissioner respectively.
On asking, Advocate B A Dar accepted notice for Commissioner Secretary I&C Department and Advocate Asifa Padroo accepted notice for Member Secretary PCB while as Advocate Momin Khan was present on behalf of SMC Commissioner.
Court, given the nature of grievance as projected in the representation by the inhabitants, directed all these officials to conduct regular inspection of the Colony and Industry in question. The court also sought an action taken report within two weeks.
