Srinagar, Sept 7: PHD Chamber of Commerce today demanded that the Pesticide Testing Laboratories in J&K must be upgraded so that the farmers get the best quality pesticides.
It was said during a meeting of a delegation of the PHD Chamber of Commerce with the Director Horticulture Kashmir-Ajaz Ahmad Bhat. The delegation apprised the Director about the difficulties faced by orchardists in the valley.
The delegation desired that the present facilities in the Pesticide Testing Laboratory may be upgraded so that all the tests are done in the State and the farmers get quality pesticide and sale of spurious pesticides if any is checked
The delegation also requested Director Horticulture to revisit the High-Density Plantation Scheme to make it broad-based. Director advised the delegation to come up with a detailed proposal so that a comprehensive proposal is submitted to the Administrative Department.
It was also stressed that the production of grapes in the district Ganderbal was in a need of further improvement as this crop is available in the market at a time when no grapes are available in the J&K.
Director Horticulture was requested to take up the matter with the Government for the establishment of more Industrial Food Parks in the UT. He assured the delegation for consideration of all the issues which are in the ambit of Directorate.
