Independent Councillors demand inclusion of Punjabi in official languages of J&K

JAMMU, Sept 5: The Independent Councillors of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) have hailed the inclusion of Dogri, Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri and English in official languages of J&K but condemned ignoring Punjabi in this regard.
In a press conference here today Independent Councillor, Sham Lal Basson claimed that there is a deep rooted conspiracy to eliminate Punjabi culture from J&K.
“Punjabi is being taught in different colleges, universities etc and was a compulsory subject,” he told reporters adding that exclusion of Punjabi language from official languages is another attack on Sikh identity is J&K.
The Independent Councillors appealed to people of J&K to come on a single platform for fight against this discrimination.
They said: “We appeal to the government of India to include Punjabi language along with Urdu, Hindi, Kashmiri, English and Dogri in the bill which will be tabled in Parliament soon otherwise the people of J&K will come on roads to lodge protest.”
Those who addressed the press conference included Ashok Singh Manhas, Inder Singh Sudan, Prof. Yudhvir Singh, S. Sucha Singh and Amit Gupta.
