JAMMU, Sept 2: Undeterred by monsoon weather vagaries, Nagrota Sangarash Samiti (NSS) today continued over a month-long sit-in-dharna to press their demand for restoration of work on the Government Degree College here, hoping that good sense will prevail upon the concerned agency to respect the sentiments of the people.
“We have no option but to continue our agitation as delay in execution of the work on the college complex is causing anxiety among the students who want to pursue higher learning at the nearest available facility”, a senior NSS leader Rameshwar Dutt said while heading the dharna, braving humid spell.
Rameshwar Dutt said that the people in general and students in particular are genuinely feeling anguished over stopping the work on the college complex despite its foundation stone laid by the Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Department last year.
“Given the assurances held out by the top government functionaries at the time of stone laying ceremony the complex should have been completed by now”, he lamented, adding that the delay is exposing the intent of those having vested interest, which in no way is in the interest of the student community.
Rameshwar Dutt urged the administration again to respond to the overwhelming demand of the people of Nagrota and resume construction on the college complex.
Prominent among those who participated in the Dharna included Sham Lal Sharma, Madan Lal, Ganesh Dutt, Sanjay Sharma, Pritam Singh, Sohan Singh, Romesh Kumar, Farooq Mohd, Rajinder Sharma, Raj Devi, Santosh Sharma, Ansh Khajuria, Prince, Varinder Khajuria, Rano Devi, Rampal Sharma, Ravi Singh, Ashok Thakur, Pawan Sharma, Mushtaq, puran Chand, Kuldeep Singh, Sub.
