Srinagar, Aug 14: Government today informed the High Court that former Additional Advocate General, Hilal Akbar Lone, is not in wrongful detention or confinement but is a protected person and is provided with security cover.
Lone has moved High Court with a plea that he be produced before the court and set free from house detention where he has been kept since June 18 after his detention under PSA was revoked by the authorities.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir while filing the report in compliance of court directions denied allegations made by Lone in the petition about house detention. He stated that no order either under preventive or substantive law has been issued against Lone.
IGP informed the court that the petitioner being, a protected person, has to approach the security agency before making any movement as he has threat to life and he is availing security cover because of his political involvement. He has been advised like other protected persons not to visit any vulnerable area without informing the concerned authorities so that the proper security arrangement are made for the safety and security of the petitioner.
Justice Magrey before proceeding in the matter after filing of report of the IGP, granted three days time to Lone’s counsel to respond the report of the IGP by or before August 17. “He shall be at liberty to approach the registry and collect the hard copy of the IGP report today itself. Registry shall ensure his entry in the high court premises for the purpose”, Justice Magrey directed.
