Srinagar cases down to lowest during 2nd wave

Srinagar, June 5: Kashmir today reported 995 fresh COVID-19 cases while 12 persons succumbed to the viral infection taking the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir to 4051.
Those who tested positive include 222 from Srinagar, 140 from Baramulla, 136 from Budgam, 107 from Pulwama, 125 from Kupwara, 95 from Anantnag, 43 from Bandipora, 54 from Ganderbal, 59 from Kulgam and 14 from Shopian.
Srinagar reported 222 positive cases today, the lowest ever since second wave of Covid-19 began. “222 positive cases in Srinagar today. The lowest since upsurge of COVID second wave. Still not a good data for good conclusion. Pl (please) remember: the Virus appears walking away only to set in an Ambush!”, the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Ajaz Asad said in a tweet.
As per officials figures, 66,641 positive cases including 796 deaths and 62,413 recoveries are from Srinagar, 22,055 including 262 deaths and 19,471 recoveries are from Baramulla, 21,012 including 19,191 recoveries and 190 deaths are from Budgam, 13,787 including 11,550 recoveries and 173 deaths are from Pulwama, 12,630 including 148 deaths and 11,118 recoveries are from Kupwara, 15,008 including 11,438 recoveries and 179 deaths are from Anantnag, 8,694 cases including 7,924 and 96 deaths are from Bandipora, 9,016 including 8,039 recoveries and 70 deaths are from Ganderbal, 10,247 including 8,775 recoveries and 108 deaths are from Kulgam and 5,409 including 4,289 recoveries and 56 deaths are from Shopian.
The number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 184,499 including 164,208 recoveries and 2,078 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 28,423 including 18,213 from Kashmir division.
With 2,615 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 266,576 which is 89.14 percent of the total cases.
Meanwhile, the weekend lockdown remained in place across Kashmir today in order to prevent the virus from spreading in the Union Territory.
The lockdown was imposed four days after the Government eased the lockdown restriction in Kashmir.
Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in many areas across Srinagar and other districts to enforce the lockdown announced by the Government.
The police and paramilitary forces were seen manning the roads in Srinagar today who had also erected concertina wires on the roads to prevent vehicular movement.
Police arrested 187 persons, lodged 97 FIRs and also realized fine to the tune of Rs 3,09,140 from 2543 people throughout the Kashmir valley for violating the various guidelines, rules and SOPs regarding COVID-19.
“The special drive against the violators of COVID-19 guidelines and rules continued throughout all the districts of Kashmir valley to ensure that people adhere to SOPs and guidelines envisaged by the Government to curb COVID-19 pandemic,” the statement said.
Moreover, police urged people to cooperate in containing the spread of Coronavirus by following the SOPs, guidelines and protocols for their own safety and for the safety of others. “The special drive shall continue throughout the districts of Kashmir valley to strengthen the safety measures,” police said.
