95 including 24 travellers test +ve for COVID-19 in Valley

SRINAGAR, June 21: Kashmir reported two deaths of COVID-19 patients today taking the Jammu and Kashmir toll to 83 while 95 people including 24 travellers tested positive for the Coronavirus in the Valley.
A 51-year-old COVID-19 patient from Rafiabad area of North Kashmir died at SKIMS hospital here today.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan, said that the man was admitted to the hospital on June 4. A resident of Tragpora area of the Rafiabad, he said that he was a case of “post renal transplant”.
“His sample was taken on May 28 and tested positive on June 3. He was planned for AV fistula. The patient was referred from COVID clinic and admitted to the hospital on June 4. He died of cardiac arrest today,” he said.
A 60-year-old COVID-19 patient from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district died at a hospital here today. The woman was admitted to the hospital on June 20. She was diagnosed of “EHBO – blockage of normal flow of bile from liver to intestinal tract – with septic shock. “Her sample was taken on June 20 and tested positive on the same day”, he said.
So far, 83 COVID-19 people have succumbed in J&K-10 from Jammu and 73 from the Valley. Srinagar district with 19 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla 13, Shopian 10, Kulgam 10, six each in Budgam and Kupwara, Anantnag 5, Pulwama three while one death has been reported from Bandipora.
An official said that the Chest Diseases lab in Srinagar today processed 640 samples and 36 tested positive for COVID-19. They include 2 pregnant women and one Army personnel whose sample was received from 92 Base Hospital Badami Bagh Cantonment Srinagar. The others include 10 from Srinagar including army man, 17 from Baramulla, eight from Kupwara and one from Pulwama.
The SKIMS laboratory processed 2430 samples today and 37 tested positive for the COVID-19. They include 6 Kashmiri travelers who returned home, 3 non locals from Assam, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh. They are seven from Bandipora district, four from Srinagar, one from Baramulla, five from Kulgam, 16 from Anantnag, one from Ganderbal, one each from Assam, West Bengal and Madhya Pradesh.
The Principal SKIMS Medical College Bemina, Dr Reyaz Untoo, told Excelsior that 646 samples were processed at the virology lab of the hospital and 22 tested positive. They are 15 from Budgam including seven from a single village of Nurpora Humhama and seven from Srinagar district.
Dr Riyaz said that 11 more COVID-19 patients admitted in SKIMS Hospital Bemina for treatment after testing positive at various referral centres were discharged today after successful completion of treatment and testing negative before discharge.
They include two from Srinagar, eight from Budgam and one from Shopian. With this the number of COVID-19 recovered patient’s has gone up to 404 out of total 518 COVID positive admitted patients.
“The recovery rate at present is more than 77.9% with four fatalities; the mortality rate is 0.77%. The treated patients include COVID positive patients admitted for maternity care wherein till date 34 deliveries of COVID positive pregnant ladies including 18 major surgeries (LSCS) for child birth have been done”, he added.
He said that besides this, the COVID Testing Lab at SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina is conducting more than 500 tests daily and till date 18710 tests have been conducted.
“Keeping in view the career of students pursing MBBS and Post-Graduation, the Faculty is continuously taking online classes as per the roster and actively involved in exam related work following all SOPs”, the Principal said.
