JAMMU, Apr 7: As many as 928 cases under SRO-43 (compassionate appointment) and 1,279 under the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme (RAS) are pending in various departments of Jammu and Kashmir as on March 1, 2025.
This was stated by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the charge of the General Administration Department (GAD), in a written reply to PDP legislator Waheed ur Rehman Parra in the Legislative Assembly today.
The CM also informed that 1,116 SRO-43 cases were approved by the Government in 2024 and efforts are being made to clear all pending cases.
“Additionally, all 1,279 applications under the Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme have been sent to the respective departments for quick disposal,” the reply stated.
To fast-track the process, Omar Abdullah said that administrative departments have been given powers to deal with compassionate appointments, provided no age or qualification relaxation is needed and suitable posts are available.
“Departments have been directed to dispose off all pending SRO-43 and RAS cases falling within their authority, ensuring due diligence and adherence to all the formalities. They are also directed to submit the compliance reports fortnightly to the General Administration Department, detailing the number of cases settled for a review,” he added.
The Chief Minister further said the Jammu and Kashmir Rehabilitation Assistance Scheme, 2022 has brought a criteria-based system to ensure fairness and transparency in such appointments.
“The scheme also allows online applications, centralized processing, and a merit-based selection process,” he said.
Cutting across the party lines, several legislators had also raised the issue of pendency of the cases under the compassionate appointment (SRO-43) and RAS scheme during the discussion on the grants of the General Administration Department, along with several other departments headed by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
