RAMBAN, July 23: Forest Department today seized 90 kilograms of banned forest produce ‘nagchatri’ and arrested a person in two separate incidents.
According to District Forest Officer (DFO) Ramban Vijay Kumar, on specific inputs, the sleuths of Forest Department laid a naka near Kawna area on Mahu-Nachlana link road and intercepted a Maruti car bearing registration number JK02B-2961.
He added that during checking, the team recovered 30 kilograms of banned forest produce ‘nagchatri’ and arrested the driver of the vehicle, who has been identified as Mohammad Anayat, son of Amir Hussain, a resident of district Reasi.
A case under Section 6 Forest Act has been registered against the accused and was later handed over to Banihal police for further investigation, he said.
He added that, the sleuths of Forest Department also conducted a raid in Mahu forest area of tehsil Banihal and seized 60 kilograms of banned forest herb ‘nagchatri’. However, the smugglers managed to escape on seeing the forest team, he added.
