SRINAGAR: Nine more youth were injured, when security forces fired pellets to disperse demonstrators in north Kashmir district of Kupwara this evening.
Meanwhile, several persons were injured in other similar incidents in different parts of the valley.
Shouting ‘anti-Government’ and ‘pro-freedom’ slogans, scores of people, mostly youth, took to streets in Regipora of Kupwara.
However, security forces deployed in the area to enforce restriction on assembly of people in Kupwara, swung into action and burst teargas shells to disperse the protestors, who were pelting stones.
Security forces also used pellet guns, in which nine youth were injured. All the injured were taken to sub-district hospital, Kupwara. Earlier, at Imam Sahib Shopian two persons were injured, when security forced opened fire at the agitators.
Protestors, mostly youth, hit the streets at main town in Shopian and raised ‘anti-Government’ and ‘pro-freedom’ slogans. But, security forces deployed in the area swung into action and burst teargas shells to disperse the protestors, who were pelting stones.
Security forces later opened fire at the agitators, resulting in injuries to two persons. Both the injured were hospitalised. (AGENCIES)
