UDHAMPUR, Sept 5: At least nine houses were damaged in land slides, over two dozens abandoned sensing trouble in Gandhtop area of Basantgarh in district Udhampur this evening.
Due to landslide, the vehicular movement on the Ramnagar-Basantgarh-Dudu road also came to halt.
Reports said nine houses of mostly Gaddi community were damaged due to landslide at Gandhtop in Basantgarh Sub Division.
After getting information, rescue teams were rushed to the spot and people from nearly 20 houses were shifted to the safer places by police and local administration.
Kuldeep Kumar, Youth president All Jammu and Kashmir Gaddi Sabha along with Ashok Thukaan, Financial Advisor to Revenue Department rushed to the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
Houses of Tirath Ram, Principal Jagan Nath, Amarnath, Gorkhu, Uttam Chand, Om Parkash, Sasrista Devi and Kishal Kumar were damaged due to the landslide.
Ashok Thukaan assured the landslide victims that he will take up the matter with Commissioner Secretary Revenue Department for sanctioning relief in favour of affected people.
Meanwhile, due to landslide, the Ramnagar-Basantgarh-Dudu road has also been closed and the vehicular movement on the road came to halt.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur, Dr Piyush Singla told the Excelsior that rescue teams have been dispatched to the spot. He said around 7-8 houses have been damaged as per initial reportsbut sliding was still going on. Villagers from nearly a score of surrounding houses have been shifted to safer places. He said Tehsildar Basantgarh, SHO, Naib Tehsildar, AEE PHE, PDD, BDO and other officials were on the spot for rescue operation.
Meanwhile, MoS in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh also talked to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Udhampur, Dr Singla and directed him to do what ever required for the people affected of Gandhtop landslide.
