9 flights cancelled, dozen trains delayed due to fog, poor visibility

JAMMU, Jan 12: While day temperature improved in Jammu today after couple of days, nine flights were cancelled at Jammu airport due to fog and poor visibility and at least a dozen trains were delayed due to its impact today.
Official sources said that due to dense fog in northern region and poor visibility at least nine flights during morning hours were cancelled at Jammu airport while the operation of about half a dozen flights was delayed. However, when the weather improved after 11.30 am, 24 flights operated till this evening, Director Airport, SK Garg said.
Due to improvement in weather, the chopper service from Katra base camp to Mata Vaishnodevi shrine/ Sanji Chhat operated normally today besides battery car and yatra also continued smoothly.
A Northern Railways spokesman said that due to dense fog and poor visibility in the northern region, the operation of trains continued to be affected for the last few weeks. He said Tata Sambalpur Express was late by 11 hours, Udhampur-Durg Exp by 7 hours, Himgiri Express by 13 hours, Rajdhani Express late by 9 hrs, Malwa Express by 4 hours, Humsafar -Tirupati Exp by 6 hours, Hemkund by one hour, Jhelum Express by two hours, Begumpura Exp by half an hour, Sealdah Exp by one and half hours, Pooja Express by 45 minutes and Shalimar Express by 3 hours 30 minutes late from its scheduled time.
The departure time of Himgiri Express was rescheduled and it left about six hours late from its scheduled time from Jammu station.
Meanwhile, entire Jammu region has been in the grip of cold wave. The region has been experiencing light rain since yesterday, while light snowfall has been witnessed at Patnitop, Nathatop, Pir Panjal and Seoj Dhar mountains, in district Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, Poonch and Rajouri. Pir Ki Gali on Mughal Road witnessed heavy snowfall while upper reaches of Sawjian, Loran in Poonch and Budhal, Dudu-Basantgarh, Bhaderwah, Gulabgarh and Bani area of Jammu region have also experienced light snowfall.
A MeT spokesman said that Jammu showed some improvement in day temperature today. City recorded a Maximum temperature of 18.3 degree Celsius and minimum 6.8 deg C, holy township of Katra a minimum temperature of 9.1 degree C and maximum 18.1 deg C, Bhaderwah town a minimum temp of 1.0 deg C, Batote 1.9 deg C while Banihal town had a minimum temperature of 2.3 degree C temperature today.
In most of the places in Jammu region, the weather will remain mostly cloudy tomorrow while it will remain dry from Jan 14 onwards in the region for couple of days, a MeT spokesman said.
