JAMMU, Mar 24: Nine drug peddlers have been arrested with cannabis, poppy straw, intoxicant capsules and heroin, while two others were taken into preventive custody and sent to jail for a period of one month.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Ramban Police Station laid a naka on Mehar-Neera road and intercepted a pedestrian, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police team recovered 10 kilograms of cannabis from the possession of the pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Shafi, son of Ghulam Qadir of Mandakbass, Khari district Ramban.
Police team led by SHO Ramban Inspector Vijay Kotwal made the arrest under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban Asgar Ali Malik, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
Meanwhile, a team from Gharota Police Station led by SHO Inspector Rajinder Sharma arrested a drug peddler along with 780 grams poppy straw and 11.5 grams cannabis.
The accused has been identified as Liaqat Ali, son of Huizar Ahmad, a resident of Sarote, Tehsil Bhalwal Jammu. Police also seized a Tata Mobile bearing registration number JK14E-7094, in which the accused was carrying the consignment.
In another similar incident, a team from GMC Police Post apprehended a drug peddler along with 504 intoxicant capsules.
The accused has been identified as Vipan Balgotra, son of Jaipal Balgotra, a resident of Kanji House Raghunath Bazaar Jammu.
In one more similar incident, a team from RS Pura Police Station led by SHO Inspector Chanchal Singh apprehended four drug peddlers and recovered 11 grams heroin from their possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Tinku Kumar of Chakroi, Keemat Lal of Dablair, Rajeev Pangotra of Kalyana and Rahul Kumar of Kotli Muffi.
In one more matching incident, Chowk Chabutra Police led by HC Fiaz Ahmed while patrolling in Peerkho area apprehended a drug peddler along with 5.870 grams heroin.
The accused has been identified as Hari Darshan Vaid, son of late Anil Vaid, a resident of Jain Bazaar, Jammu.
In one more similar incident, a team from Rehambal Police Station led by SHO Inspector Ajay Bhat under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Udhampur Rohit Chadgal and Additional SP Udhampur Rajinder Katoch laid a naka near Chopra Shop and arrested a drug peddler along with 6.5 grams heroin.
The arrested person has been identified as Tftqar Ali, son of Muzaffar Ali of Kotli Pain, District Udhampur.
Cases under relevant sections have been registered at Ramban, Gharota, Bakshi Nagar, RS Pura, Pacca Danga and Rehambal Police Stations and investigation started.
Meanwhile, a police team led by SDPO Bhaderwah Iftkhar Ahmed and SHO Bhaderwah Inspector Munir Ahmed Khan conducted raids and apprehended two drug peddlers.
The accused identified as Ajaz Ahmed, son of Sajad Ahmed Zarger of Teligarh Bhaderwah and Ishtaq Ahmed, son of Mohammad Amin Sheikh of Qilla Mohalla Bhaderwah were involved in drug peddling and supplying drugs to the youth of Bhaderwah Town.
Both the accused were produced before Tehsildar Bhaderwah Zeeshan Tahir and by the order of Executive Magistrate Ist Class, they were booked under preventive detention and lodged in District Jail Kishtwar for a period of one month.
The arrest was made under the supervision of Raj Singh Goria Additional SP Bhaderwah and Shabir Ahmed Malik SSP Doda.
