9-day long Durga Pooja culminates with immersion of Saakh in rivers

JAMMU, Sept 29: The nine -day long Sharad Navratra festival (Durga Pooja) culminates on Mahanavmi today with immersion of Saakh in various rivers by the devotees across the Jammu region.
There was heavy rush of the devotees from early in the morning on the banks of river Tawi, Chenab in Akhnoor and on banks of Ranbir Canal at various places in Jammu.
The immersion of Saakh started soon after performance of Kanjak pooja by the devotees in the morning and it continued up to late evening hours.

The devotees including men, women and children performed pooja at river banks before the immersion of Saakh in the water and there was a festive look all around. At various places the devotees in big processions took Saakh for immersion. They were reciting bhajans in praise of Goddess Durga.
In Jammu, there was a heavy rush of devotees for immersion of Saakh at Bikram Chowk, and Harki Puri near Bawe on the banks of river Tawi,  Ranbir canal and Tawi canal, Akhnoor Ghat on the bank of river Chenab, bank of river Ravi in Basholi and other villages, banks of Kathua canal and other canals, on the banks of river Ujh, Basanter and other small rivers.
During the nine- day of Durga Pooja the devotees remained on fast worshiping Saakh daily which was sown by them in the small pots in their houses. On the culmination day of the festival on Mahanavmi today,  the devotees performed Kanjak poojan by worshiping nine girls manifesting the nine forms of Goddess Durga before the immersion of Saakh in rivers.
This was followed by distribution of prashad among the devotees. Besides, hawans were also performed in various temples on the culmination of Durga Pooja today. The hawans started yesterday evening and culminated with pooran ahuti and serving of prashad to devotees this afternoon.
During the nine-day long festival there was a heavy rush of devotees in various temples to pay obeisance of the Goddess. They visited   Kali Mata Temple Bawe, Jammu, Chichi Mata temple, Samba, Sukhrala Mata Billawar, Bal Sundri Mata, Shailputri Mata temple Ambica Vihar Gole Gujral etc. On the culmination day of the festival today a beeline of devotees was also seen in these temples who had come from different parts of the State and neighboring States of Himachal and Punjab to perform pooja archana of Goddess and seek blessings.
The authorities and the local temple management committees had also made elaborate arrangements for the devotees visiting these shrines and temples during the festival days.
Navratra festival was also celebrated at Pushkara Swami Sewa Ashram, Laxmi Puram Chinore , Najab Garh Delhi with full religious fervor and gaiety. Large number of devotees attended the function and bhajan and Kirtan in praise of Goddess were recited by the devotees. On the occasion flag hoisting was performed by A K Hali chairman of the Ashram.
The nine -day long spiritual activity in connection with celebration of Navratra festival concluded at Bhagawaan Gopinath Ji Ashram Udaywala today. Hundreds of devotes thronged the Ashram from September 21,  to September 29  -the Navratra days to participate in the spiritual activity. During the nine -days long religious programme three crore mantras were recited. A hawan was also performed which started yesterday evening and culminated this afternoon. This was followed with serving of prashad to devotees.
