88 vehicles of legislators withdrawn, 3725 Constables recruited in Police

JAMMU, Jan 12: Alleging that Govt was not providing proper reply on the recruitment in Police Department and the criteria adopted during recruitment in J&K Armed Police, opposition National Conference Member Dr Shehnaz Ganai today staged walk out from  the Legislative Council today.
Minister for R&B and Parliamentary Affairs  Abdul Rehman Veeri was responding to  the question of Dr Ganai in the Upper House on behalf of Minister Incharge Home. The Member alleged that Govt was not providing proper reply, rather creating confusion over the recruitment of Police Constables in Armed Police battalions and also not telling properly about the criteria being maintained in the Police recruitment in JKAP.
She impressed upon the Chairman to direct the Minister to get her the proper reply or defer the question. As the Minister avoided to further elaborate  and Chairman giving no much heed to the NC  Member’s repeated pleas, went ahead with the next question, the member protested and staged walk out, telling that she was not satisfy by the minister’s response to her question. She alleged that there was no proper transparency in the  system of recruitment  in JKAP battalions and the system needed to be streamlined. She regretted that no proper yardsticks for the recruitment in Armed Police battalions are being adopted.
Earlier, giving replying to the main question of  Dr Shehnaz, the Minister said that informed the House that 3725 youth were recruited as Constables through recruitment board and SRO-43 in the Police department during the period last two years, of  which 132 are female constables.
Veeri said 100 Prosecuting Officers were also appointed in the department of which 18 are females. He said 11 Sub-Inspectors including a female were also recruited in the department during this period.
The Minister further informed that in all 3622 candidates of various districts were recruited as constables through Police recruitment board during last two years which include 911 in Executive Police and 2711 in Armed Police.
Replying to other part of the question, Veeri said there is a laid down policy for regularization of SPOs as constables/followers in Police Department on operational grounds, excellence in sports and ITI diploma. He said besides during recruitment of constables 50 percent horizontal reservation has also been earmarked for SPOs having continuous engagement for three years.
The Minister further said that 2081 SPOs were absorbed and appointed as constables/followers during past five years in the state.
Veeri also informed that Police Department has withdrawn 88 vehicles from various Legislators out of which 17 vehicles have been deployed with other protected persons. He said 58 vehicles have been kept in Police Central stores in Srinagar and Jammu as most of them are flood-affected while the remaining 13 vehicles are lying at Central Pool Jammu/Srinagar  and have been kept reserved.
BJP Member Sofi Yousuf and PDP member Zafar Iqbal Manhas also raised supplementaries to the main question.
