LEH, July 6: The 80th birth anniversary of Dalai Lama was celebrated today with full gaiety at a grand function at Jewaytsal where Sakya Trizin Rinpoche presided as the chief guest.
Khanpo Rinpoche and eminent Rinpoches, Geshes, monks, and nuns, Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Rigzin Spalbar, Member Parliament Ladakh Thupstan Tsewang, former Member Parliament P Namgyal, Executive Councilors Health Dr Sonam Wangchuk, Tourism Mohd Shafi, and Animal & Sheep Husbandry Gyurmet Dorjey, Councillors of different constituencies, Tibetan exile government Dharamsala Judge Nawang Chotak, and prominent officials and members of Tibetan government in exile in Ladakh, religious heads and political personalities, and Ladakhi and Tibetan people from all corner of Ladakh were part of the grand celebration that was organized by Ladakh Gonpa Association, Ladakh Buddhist Association, and CRO of Central Tibetan Administration.
The function started with lighting of the lamp for longevity and well-being of Dalai Lama and birthday cake was also cut by Sakya Rinpoche. It was followed by singing of Indian and Tibetan national anthem by all present.
Praying for Dalai Lama’s long life, Sakya Rinpoche said that we cannot forget the contributions being made by Dalai Lama in preserving and promoting the Himlayan culture and tradition world over.
Rinpoche further said that Ladakh and Tibet has historical bonding and India had helped Tibet during its difficult times and therefore expressed gratitude to the Indian Government for their unconditional help and assistance.
CEC Rigzin Spalbar spoke in-line with Sakya Trizin Rinpoche about the three beliefs of Dalai Lama and stressed on the need of following them to pay the real gift to one’s guru. He further expressed happiness over the scheduled arrival of HH Dalai Lama to Ladakh for one-week’s time on 27th of this month.
Member Parliament Thupstan Tsewang termed Ladakhis as lucky for the blessings of all the Rinpoches who have been coming to Ladakh again and again.
On the occasion, president Ladakh Gonpa Association Geshes Lobzang Samstan, Deputy CRO Tsering Dolker, and president Tibetan Local Assembly Tundup Tsering also spoke. Earlier President Ladakh Buddhist Association Tsewang Thinless gave the welcome speech and in the end President LBA Youth Rinchen Namgyal proposed the vote of thanks.
