JAMMU, June 23: Jammu and Kashmir stood at 14th place in the country ahead of neighbouring Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in Coronavirus cases in the figures released today by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare & ICMR. The Union Territory of Ladakh stood at 25th place.
Meanwhile, 28 persons including four police constables deployed in Police Training School (PTS) Kathua, two CRPF personnel, one each jawan from Army and Indian Reserve Police (IRP), a four-year-old child from Doda and mother – daughter were among 28 persons who tested positive for Coronavirus in Jammu region while the Union Territory of Ladakh reported 85 fresh COVID cases today.
State/UT wise figures of Coronavirus including confirmed cases, recoveries, active cases and deaths released today by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare & ICMR showed Jammu and Kashmir ranked at No. 14 at 8 am today with 6088 confirmed cases, 3531 recoveries, 85 deaths and 2472 active cases,
Jammu and Kashmir is not only ahead of its neighbouring States like Punjab and Himachal Pradesh but also from some big States like Assam, Odisha, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand in terms of Coronavirus cases.
The Health Ministry document said more than 70 percent Corona deaths were due to co-morbidities.
Maharashtra figured at No. 1 with 1,35,796 cases followed by New Delhi with 62,655 and Tamil Nadu having 62,087 cases.
Meanwhile, four persons today tested positive for Coronavirus in Jammu district including a 28-year-old youth from Sunjawan with travel history of Uttar Pradesh, a 23-year-old youth from RS Pura, who had returned from Mumbai and a 40-year-old woman and her 13-year-old daughter from Gandhi Nagar, all of whom were under administrative quarantine.
A 43 years old female surgeon, Assistant Professor of Surgery in GMC Jammu has tested negative thrice after being tested positive for COVID two weeks back and has recovered from the virus.
Kathua district today reported five fresh Corona cases including four police constables who had been deployed in the PTS Kathua and had returned from Kashmir where they had gone to their houses on leave. On return from the Valley, they were under quarantine at the PTS and were sampled for the virus.
Another positive case in the district was also a traveler, who was under administrative quarantine, District Magistrate OP Bhagat said.
He added that 1054 persons crossed Lakhanpur from different States during past 24 hours.
Three persons including an Army soldier from Hyderabad in Telangana and an Indian Reserve Police (IRP) constable from Poonch reported positive for the virus in Udhampur district, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla said. The third positive of Udhampur was also a traveler from Baramulla and under administrative quarantine.
Two CRPF personnel were among three persons who tested positive for COVID-19 in Samba district.
SSP Samba Shakti Pathak said two CRPF constables who reported positive for the virus hailed from Kupwara and Vijaypur. Third positive of the district was an 18-year-old youth from Rajouri with travel history of Punjab, who was under administrative quarantine at Samba.
In Ramban district, five persons tested positive for the virus.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ramban Dr Fareed Bhat said all five were lodged in one quarantine centre and they had come in contact with two persons who had earlier tested positive in the same centre.
They have been admitted in the COVID hospital, Dr Bhat said, adding that all of them hailed from village Dharmound in Batote town of Ramban district.
A four-year-old boy hailing from Indralla Thathri in Doda district who had returned from Mumbai along with his family and a 23-year-old from Marmat having travel history of New Delhi today tested positive for Coronavirus in Doda district.
Two youth reported Corona positive in Poonch district hailing from Sangala and Sanai areas of Surankote with travel history of Mumbai, SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said, adding that both have been shifted from quarantine centres to COVID hospitals.
SSP Rajouri Chandan Kohli said a 22-year-old youth from Thanamarg Darhal tested positive in the district.
Three persons, all travelers, tested positive in Reasi district.
Meanwhile, 51 COVID patients were today treated and discharged from various COVID Hospitals in Jammu region.
They include 29 from Jammu district, nine Samba, six Poonch, three Kathua, two Doda and one each Udhampur and Reasi districts.
As per the official figures, Jammu region has 1396 Corona patients and 513 active cases. There have been 873 recoveries and 10 deaths.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory of Ladakh today reported 85 new COVID-19 cases taking total number of Corona patients to 932.
Of 85, Leh district reported 20 new cases and Kargil 65.
Of 932 cases in Ladakh, 242 belonged to Leh and 690 Kargil. The UT has 783 active cases, 161 in Leh and 622 in Kargil. There have been 148 recoveries in Ladakh, 80 in Leh and 68 in Kargil and one Corona death in Leh.
Of total active cases, 64 were admitted in COVID Hospitals, 599 were in home isolation and 120 in COVID Care Centre.
