8 food establishments challaned, 2 caterers directed to stop activities

JAMMU, Aug 21: Food Safety wing of Drug & Food Controller Organization, Jammu today challaned eight food establishments and directed two caterers to cease their commercial activities for unhygienic conditions.
On the directions of Commissioner, Food Safety, a special drive on the eve of Eid was conducted by Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety Jammu, along with Food Safety officers in the municipal limits of Jammu.
During the drive, the Food Safety team inspected more than 27 food establishments, particularly those selling non-vegetarian food, out of which eight were challaned for unhygenic conditions and other contraventions under Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act 2006.
Earlier, the team conducted a surprise inspection of kitchens of Doon Caterers and Rishu Caterers, both located in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. The team found that both the caterers were cooking food in unhygenic conditions. Both the erring caters were served show cause notices for not maintaining Food Safety norms and directed to stop their commercial activities till compliance of their directions.
Pertinent to mention here that Doon Caterers supplies food in trains including Jammu Mail, Sampark Kranti and Pooja Express.
Meanwhile, the Food Safety team also conducted a one-day awareness programme at General Bus Stand for food business operators, especially those dealing in non veg food. A large number of food business operators participated in the programme, during which Dr Parvesh asked them to maintain hygiene at all levels in their establishments and obey FSS norms.
