‘Govt to establish extension centres in far-off areas for registration’
Minister for Finance, Labour & Employment, Dr Haseeb A Drabu today said the government would establish extension centres in far-off areas for the registration of Buildings and Other Construction (BOC) workers.
Replying to a question of Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, the Minister informed the House that 79666 B&OC workers have been registered during the last three years under the J&K BOCW (RE&CS) Act, 1996 in the state.
The Minister said an amount of Rs 2.15 crore has been received from 127626 registered workers for renewal of their cards in 2016-17 and 2017-18. Meanwhile, an amount of Rs 2.0333 crore has been disbursed under various schemes to these workers in Kishtwar during the current financial year, he added.
He further said that the government is contemplating to renew job cards in the month of June-July. He assured that the government would clear the liability pending with the department on account of scholarships, disability and deaths cases soon. Every construction worker will be provided with an assistance of Rs 10000 at the time of emergency, he added.
