700 cases filed as new top cop takes charge in Islamabad

Islamabad, Dec 27: At least 700 pending cases have been registered in a single day in the Pakistan capital after newly-appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Ahsan Younus directed senior police officers to ensure presence in their jurisdictions after 12 pm.
According to Dawn report, a number of police stations had made a routine of not registering FIRs of theft and other crimes or just mentioned the complaints in their daily registers. This led to majority of complaints not getting registered.
It was after the intervention of IGP that the Margalla police registered 120 cases in a single day. Similaryly, the Tarnol police registered 70 cases.
Among such cases is a complaint on motorbike theft that was reported in Margalla police station on February 14 but the FIR was not registered.
