AGRA, Aug 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Government shifted 70 hardcore terrorists and separatist leaders from different jails in Kashmir valley to Central Agra Jail in Uttar Pradesh today, in the wake of the decision of withdrawing Articles 370 and 35A.
Reports said that a special plane took off from J&K today morning and landed at Kheriya Airport in Agra, under heavy police security.
Later, the prisoners were shifted in tight security, with the policemen deployed all through the route from airport till Central Jail compound.
All the windows of the vehicles, on which the prisoners were boarded, were covered with black clothes, as a precautionary measure. They were later lodged in high security barracks of the Central Jail.
The identity of the shifted prisoners was not disclosed, but sources said most of them were dreaded terrorists.
Local administration has also strengthened the security cover of the jail and deployed additional Jawans of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) on all rounds of the jail boundary.
After abolishing Articles 370 and 35A, the Central Government is shifting hardened criminals from Jammu and Kashmir jails to prisons of other States, sources said, adding that more prisoners could be shifted to Agra. (UNI)
