JAMMU, May 8: Exactly a week after the mutilation of two soldiers, Indian Army has hit back targeting Pakistani forward posts and bunkers with `Anti Guided Tank Missiles’ across Nowshera sector along the Line of Control (LoC) inflicting heavy damages on the Pakistani troops.
At least four Pakistani posts and three bunkers have been destroyed in massive retaliatory attack undertaken by the Indian Army in Rajouri-Poonch sector. While exact casualties suffered by Pakistan in the attack were not known, sources told the Excelsior that four to six Pakistani jawans appeared to have perished in the attack.
However, sources said, the attack was just a tip of iceberg and Pakistan could face much bigger offence from the Indian side in the days to come for mutilation of two Indian soldiers at Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district on May 1.
Sources said the troops targeted forward Pakistan army posts and bunkers, which had been resorting to unprovoked shelling and firing on the Indian side apart from giving shelter to terrorists to push them into this side.
Troops were reported to have used ‘Anti Guided Tank Missiles’ to hit Pakistani posts and bunkers. This took the Pakistani troops completely by surprise and they didn’t find any time to retaliate.
The Indian attack was reported to have lasted just seven minutes in which four Pakistani posts and three bunkers were razed to ground. At least four to six Pakistan army jawans were reportedly killed in the attack. Indian side didn’t suffer any casualties as Pakistani troops were unable to retaliate.
Sources said the `Anti Guided Tank Missiles’ are used rarely to target the enemy troops but the attack was necessitated as Pakistani troops had been using their forward bunkers and posts to shell civilian population in forward areas. Also, there were reports that some Pakistani militants had also been using these posts as launch pads to try and infiltrate into this side.
After the attack, some of the Pakistani army personnel were seen carrying bodies of their dead colleagues. However, as per reports, Pakistani troops had so far made no effort to reconstruct their destroyed posts and bunkers as they anticipated that they could be targeted again while undertaking reconstruction work.
Sources said the troops deployed along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir have been given free hand to take any kind of action against Pakistani troops, which is required to safeguard the civilian population living in the forward areas and prevent infiltration by the militants.
“As forward Pakistani posts were engaged in targeting civilian areas during shelling and trying to facilitate infiltration by the militants, they were targeted by the Indian side,” sources said.
However, there were inputs that Pakistan army could face bigger action from the Indian side during next few days as revenge to the killing of two soldiers and mutilation of their bodies in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district a week back.
It may be mentioned here that Pakistani troops had sneaked about 400 meters inside the Indian territory on May 1, killed two soldiers of Army and BSF, mutilated their bodies and escaped back. Indian Army has already vowed that it would take revenge from Pakistan for the dastardly act of mutilation of two soldiers.
Army has already strengthened its positions all along LoC in Jammu and Kashmir to prevent any further attack by Pakistan’s Border Action Teams (BATs) and infiltration attempts by the militants, sources pointed out.
