7 injured in group clash over land dispute

POONCH, Mar 4: At least seven persons were injured in a clash over land dispute between two families at village Sakhi Maidan  in  Mendhar Sub division of Poonch District today.
A police spokesman said that bloody clash took place between the family members of Mohd Shafi  and Shah Mohammad, both residents of Chote Shah Badshah Ziyarat, Sakhi Maidan in Mendhar over an old land dispute.
The eyewitnesses said that both the sides after heated arguments freely exchanged lathis and sharp edged weapons and also pelted stones on each other. The women members from both the sides also clashed.
Besides Shah Mohammad (70) himself, four other members of his family identified as Bago Begum (65), Hakim Din (65), Ghulam Nabi (60), Abdul Hamid (35) sustained injuries while Shaheena Akhter (32), Salma Kouser (24) were injured from the family of Mohammad Shafi, all residents of Sakhi Maidan. Several injured persons, bleeding profusely, kept lying on the ground for some time.
After the clash, a family assisted by his relatives started protest and  blocked Mendhar-Poonch road. Soon after receiving information, SHO Mendhar Manzoor Kohli and SDPO Sheezan Bhat besides Tehsildar Mendhar Gourav Sharma, rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. They directed for immediate evacuation of injured persons for treatment to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar.
Block Medical Officer (BMO) Mendhar, Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Khan said that two ambulances were rushed and the injured were evacuated from the spot to Government Sub District Hospital Mendhar. He said all of them are stable and responding well to the treatment.
Meanwhile,  police has registered a case at Police Station Mendhar in this connection and started investigation.
