JAMMU, Aug 3: As a special initiative under the ‘Saubhagya Scheme’, Elect M&RE Division III, Jammu organized a special camp at Government Higher Secondary School, Pargwal for releasing on the spot electricity connections to the un-electrified households at their door steps.
During the camp, a total of 62 electricity connections were released free of cost besides distributed free energy meters and certificates to the consumers.
The event was organized to apprise the people of far flung areas about the benefits of ‘Saubhagya Scheme’, under which the poor households (covered under SECC 2011) will be provided electricity connections free of cost and non-poor rural households (not found eligible as per SECC 2011) will be provided electricity connections on payment of Rs 500 recoverable in 10 installments in subsequent bills. Non poor urban households are however excluded of the scheme.
Executive Engineer, Sanjay Sharma, CPM REC, Ajay Kumar, other public representatives, Assistant Executive Engineer, Sub-Division Janipur, BB Sharma, Junior Engineers, Davinder Singh, Kanchan Bharti, Nisha Pandita, Divya Gupta and other concerned field staff were present on the occasion.
The PDD team also interacted with the general public of the area and took note of their grievances concerning to power supply. The team was informed that people were primarily facing problems owing to poor voltage profile due to running of pump-sets for agricultural purpose which has drastically increased the load on the existing distribution transformers in the area and were accordingly demanding for separate DTs for the said purpose.
Many pump-set owners were also provided on-spot electricity connections viz energy meters free of cost by the Department.
On the occasion, CPM REC informed the people that the ‘Saubhagya Scheme’ aims to saturate the villages across the State with 100 per cent household electrification while ensuring last mile connectivity and encouraged them to avail the benefits of the scheme.
Sanjay Sharma, Executive Engineer, EMRE-III, Jammu announced that another camp will be held in their village on September 3 to cover any left over un-electrified households in the area. Besides, a special interaction programme was held with the students of the school, wherein the PDD team briefed them about the importance of energy conservation, safety instructions while using electrical appliances and judicious use of electricity.
