60 kg poppy straw seized from scrap truck, two arrested

JAMMU, June 11: Trikuta Nagar police seized 60 kilograms poppy straw from a scrap truck under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ and arrested two persons here today.
As per police sources, based on a tip-off, a team from Trikuta Nagar police station laid a naka at Malik Market and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK03D-1578 coming from Srinagar to stop for checking.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 60 kilograms poppy straw concealed in the bags and kept beneath the scrap, which was loaded in the truck.
Acting swiftly, police arrested the driver and his associate, who have been identified as Zahoor Ahmed and Kulwant Singh, both resident of Pulwama.
The accused had brought the consignment from Srinagar to sell it among the youth to make them drug addicts, but timely action by the police foiled their bid.
A case under FIR Number 109/16 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Trikuta Nagar police station and further investigation into the case is going on.
Police team led by SHO Trikuta Nagar Inspector Kuldeep Khajuria and assisted by PSI Vikas Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO East Chandan Kohli and SP South Shaazad Salaria.
