Srinagar, Oct 2: Police today arrested 60 persons for creating trouble in Kashmir as normal life remained paralysed for 86th consecutive day today during which clashes and protests were reported from several areas of the Valley in which 30 protesters were injured by pellets.
Restrictions were imposed in several areas of Valley to thwart protest marches called by separatists. The shops, markets, other businesses were shut while public transport remained off the roads.
Curfew like restrictions was imposed in Narbal area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district in wake of the protest march call given by separatists.
At least 15 civilians were injured during clashes between protesters and security forces in Check Kawoosa area of central Kashmir’s Budgam.
In Kulgam district of South Kashmir, Govt Girls Higher Secondary School computer lab was set on fire in which 16 computers, furniture and mating were damaged. Some people entered the premises of the school last night and watchman fled away due to fear and they set the laboratory on fire. An FIR has been registered in this regard.
Clashes were reported in Khudwani, Qaimoh, Radwani where a protester was hit by bullet in leg. Resident alleged that security forces beat the civilians of the area during which clashes erupted and security forces fired in air to disperse the protesters. At least 30 persons were injured during the clashes. Around 10 protesters were arrested in the area.
According to a statement issued by the Zonal Police Headquarters Kashmir, situation remained by and large peaceful today. “A couple of stray stone pelting incidents were reported,” it said.
The statement said that during the day greater movement of people and vehicular traffic was observed in Srinagar, besides Sunday market also opened in the city which was thronged by shoppers. “Vehicles were also seen plying in the main towns and also on the inter-district roads,” it said.
The statement said that police in its drive against the miscreants arrested 60 such individuals involved in various offences of creating disturbances in different part of the Valley.
