6 securitymen, 14 civilians killed in Pak cross border firing

SRINAGAR:The number of security force personnel and civilians killed in cross border firing by Pakistani troops in Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed increase this year as compared to last year.

Meanwhile, 29 security personnel and 20 civilians were killed in different militancy related incidents in the state this year.

In a written reply to a question by Mian Altaf Ahmad, Minister Incharge Home said six security personnel were killed and 14 were injured in cross border firing by Pakistani troops on Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in the state during 2015 so far.          He said during entire last year only four security personnel have lost their lives and 16 others were wounded in the Pak firing.

The reply said 14 civilians were killed and 61 others, including women and children, were injured in the Pak troops firing this year against 14 deaths and 101 injured last year.

The minister said 29 security personnel were killed and 71 others were wounded in different militancy related incidents upto September 22 this year.         However, 47 security personnel had lost their lives and 84  were wounded in 2015 when 35 civilians were killed and 70 others were wounded in the militancy related incidents.

The reply said as per details received from Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir and Jammu, exgratia relief of Rs 34.43 lakh and Rs 19.32 lakh hae been paid to the next of kin of deceased and injured persons in Jammu and Kashmir respectively.

The remaining cases are under process at various stages, he said. (UNI)
