SRINAGAR, Jan 10: Police today arrested six drug peddlers in separate operations across Kashmir and recovered significant quantities of psychotropic substances.
A police spokesperson said in Anantnag police intercepted a Wagon-R vehicle (registration number JK01M-4136) during a naka checking at Halmulla Sangam. Three individuals were onboard. “During search of the vehicle, 21 bottles of Codeine Phosphate were recovered,” he said.
He said the suspects were identified as Javid Ahmad Sheikh, son of Abdul Gani Sheikh from Kuchmulla Tral; Mohammad Altaf Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh from Kanihama Nowgam Srinagar; and Mohammad Haroon Parry, son of Mohammad Sadiq Parry from Charsoo Awantipora. “The vehicle used in the crime was also seized,” he said.
In a separate operation, the spokesperson said, police stopped a truck belonging to Jupiter Cargo Transport Company Srinagar (registration number JK01AS-5073) for inspection at Jablipora fruit market in Anantnag. “A search led to the discovery of 10 bottles of Codeine Phosphate hidden in the vehicle, he said. He added the truck driver, Javaid Ahmad Shah, son of Mohammad Yousuf Shah, and the conductor, Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of Ali Mohd Shah, both residents of Bahoo, Awantipora, were arrested. “The truck was also seized in connection with the crime,” he said.
In Sopore, the spokesperson said during a naka checking at Naidhal Crossing, police intercepted Shakir Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Majoo Sheikh, a resident of Noorbagh Baramulla.”
A search revealed 32.3 grams of a charas-like substance and 64 capsules of SpasmoProxyvon Plus. He was arrested and remains in police custody,” he said.
The spokesperson said that cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at the respective police stations, and further investigations are underway.
