598 corruption cases pending trial in courts

Srinagar, Aug 28: The State Vigilance Organisation today in its report before the Legislative Council said that 598 cases are pending trail in the courts.
While tabling the six-monthly report in the Council, the organization said at the beginning of the year in 2014, 514 FIR cases were pending trail in anti corruption courts in Jammu and Srinagar.
Challan in two cases was presented during the period of the review making the total cases to 516. “During the period the Special Judge Anti-Corruption decided 18 cases. Of these two ended in conviction and 13 in acquittal, three cases abated to death of the accused,” the VO said it its report.
It said 48 fresh cases were registered from January 1 to June 30.
“The number of cases pending with VO as on December 2013 were 120, 27 cases were under legal scrutiny,” it siad.
