58 pc power supply restored in Poonch, says Govt

JAMMU, Mar 4: The Government today said 58 per cent of the power supply has been restored in poonch district with seven to eight hours of electic supply.
“58 per cent of the power supply has been restored in Poonch district where transmission and distribution network got heavily damaged due to snowfall on January 17 and 18,” Minister of state for Power Vikar Rasool told Legislative Council while replying to calling attention motion of NC legislator Shenaz Ganai.
Of these 80 per cent restoration of power supply has been undertaken in Mendhar tehsil followed by 70 per cent in Poonch, 60 per cent each in Balakote and Surankote and lowest of 45 per cent and 35 per cent in Mandi and Bafliaz, respectively, he said.
“Temporary restoration of power supply is being carried out with meagre funds provided by the district administration and by utilising material available in divisional stores,” Rasool said.
Admitting that sub-standard material was used in construction of transmission and distribution network in Poonch district, which was damaged due to just a single snowfall, the Minister said a high-level committee has been constituted to probe it.
Regarding the availablity of power supply in restored areas, the Minister said seven to eight hours of power supply has been made available to people in Poonch followed by eight to ten hours in Mendhar and six to seven hours in Surankote, Mandi, Bafliaz, Loran and Sabjian.
To a supplementary question by the member, Rasool said that they have entrusted the work to Power Grid Corporation of India and they have said that the restoration work will be completed between one-and-half to two months. (AGENCIES)
