Sir,
This has reference to the news item, ‘Power supply to entire Doda-Kishtwar depends upon ‘Crippling’ infrastructure; DE Aug 29.
It is a stark reality and can’t be swept beneath the carpet that power system in the State is in a shambles. It needs political will and proper planning to overhaul the whole system that has made the life of people quite miserable. The Power Development Department is presently beset with numerous problems that has hindered its growth.
It is quite ironical and shocking that the State which is producing sufficient electricity to meet its needs is starved of it. All the three regions – Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir suffer on one count or the other, and these problems are region specific. There can’t one time solution to all these problems. It is not mere domestic consumers who suffer, but the Industry too is its victim.
Unless Government frames a comprehensive policy in this regard, the power situation will deteriorate further instead of improving.
Yours etc..
