JAMMU: The suspended Vaishno Devi pilgrimage, due to forest fire in the Vaishno Devi Hills, resumed early this morning.
A major fire had broke out last night in Trikuta Hills of Katra town in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“The new battery car track which was closed last night due to wild fire in forests of Trikuta Hills, was thrown open this morning for the pilgrims,” official sources here said.
They said that teams of fire and emergency services, Shrine Board and police controlled the fire, doused the flames and prevented it from further spreading.
The Vaishno Devi Yatra was suspended on new battery car track while pilgrims were allowed to use traditional old track to perform pilgrimage.
“The registration slip counter was also closed at 2100 hours, one hour prior from its schedule time,” they said adding that by evening, 40,000 pilgrims had registered themselves for the Yatra.
Around 25,000 devotees from across the country, were stranded in Katra due to closure of registration counter to avoid rush on old track in view of forest fire, but they were allowed to proceed to the cave shrine this morning, they added. (AGENCIES)
