JAMMU, Mar 16: Minister of State for Technical Education, Vikar Rasool today said that Government was endeavouring to promote skill development in the State to enhance the employability of youth and for this purpose 50 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have been proposed for the uncovered areas of the State.
Replying to the discussions on demand of grants for the Technical Education Department in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said that Government will add some new trades in the ITIs which have the market demand so that youth after obtaining the diplomas get absorbed in the Government and private sector.
He said Government is contemplating to enhance the intake capacity of Polytechnic Colleges to train local youth in different disciplines, adding present intake capacity of the Polytechnic Colleges is 5440 and during the next year it is expected to be enhanced to 6500 seats in different job oriented courses. He said that there are 60 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) including 54 Government and 6 private with 15600 intake capacity annually.
The Minister informed the House that to train State youth in specialized trades in different disciplines the Government has deputed 4000 youth outside the State this year. Over 6500 youth will be deputed for receiving skill development training in different trades during the next year, he added.
