50 green houses sanctioned for Leh: Mir

JAMMU, Feb 21: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today said that steps are being taken to harness the agriculture potential of Leh district through introduction of latest agriculture inputs and quality seeds.
The Minister said this at a high level meeting convened to review the progress of agriculture sector in the district.
Executive Councilor Agriculture LAHDC, Doorji, MLC, Sonam Gayalchan, Director Agriculture, Kashmir, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
Expressing concern over low capacity of utilization of funds under the agriculture sector, the Minister directed the concerned to activate the local Agriculture Officers so that the funds under central sponsored schemes are utilized judiciously in a time bound manner. He also asked the officers to accelerate the process of identification of beneficiaries so that they can be benefitted at the earliest.
The Minister said that steps are being taken to introduce rust resistance varieties of wheat seed in Leh as the traditional varieties of wheat are prone to rust disease. He said, in this direction, Directorate of Agriculture, Kashmir is in contact with Director Seed Research Karnal for providing breeder seed to the farmers of Leh.
The meeting was told that under Special Task Force (STF) Rs 4.56 crore have been allocated to the Leh district for agriculture sector besides Rs.1.37 crore under various Centrally sponsored schemes. Besides, 50 special green houses have also been sanctioned to the district under which the farmers are being provided Rs 80,000 subsidy per green house.
