JAMMU, Apr 23: Principal Sessions Judge Kathua, Vinod Chatterji Koul today awarded five years rigorous imprisonment to Rakesh Singh, who was facing trial in dowry death case.
After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge said, “the accused/convict Rakesh Singh, son of Major Singh of Mangloor, who has been facing trial since December 3, 2008, is sentenced to undergo imprisonment for a period of five years and fine of Rs 10,000 is imposed for offence under Section 306 RPC”.
“Moreover, imprisonment for one year and fine of Rs 1,000 is imposed for offence under Section 498-A RPC. In default of payment of fine, he shall further undergo imprisonment for a period of six months under Section 306 RPC and one month under Section 498-A RPC”, the court said, adding both the sentences will run concurrently.
