JAMMU : Five women were killed and 15 injured, two of them critically, when a tractor trolley they were travelling in skidded off and rolled down on the road in Kanhachak area on city outskirts of this winter capital, police here today said.
A tractor trolley carrying at least 20 women from Akhnoor to Gurha Pattan in Kanhachak area met with an accident at Dumi Malpur this morning at around 0630 hrs and rolled down on the road, police sources here said. They said five women died on the spot and others got injured, adding, “police and locals on receving information rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital.”
Two of the critically injured namely Bindu (26) and Rimpy (20) were shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu while others were admitted to the Sub-District Hospital, Akhnoor.
The women had gone to take bath in River Chenab and immerse ‘saakh’ into the river on the last navratra, police added.
The deceased were identified as Mamta Devi (25), daughter of Joginder Singh, Nirmala Devi (35), wife of Sham Singh, Radaha Rani, 25, daughter of Ashok Kumar, Kamlesh Devi, 50, wife of Joginder Singh and Raj Rani, 50, wife of Bahadur Singh, all residents of Sua Number 1, Malpur.
