5 OGWs held in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 21: Security forces today busted a militant module of Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) by arresting their four Over Ground Workers (OGWs) in Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district and one more OGW of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was arrested from Baramulla.

Police in Awantipora received a reliable input regarding activities of JeM militants in Samboora and adjoining areas of Pampore, which is being supported and assisted by militant associates.
“Acting upon information, police from Awantipora with the assistance of Army’s 50 RR and CRPF 110 Bn conducted a raid and search in suspected areas of Samboora and during searches four militant associates were arrested,” a police spokesman said.
He identified the arrested persons as Zubair Gul, son of Ghulam Mohammad Ganie of Samboora, Adil Fayaz Ganie, son of Fayaz Ahmed Ganie of Samboora, Basit Ali, son of Ali Mohammad Dar of Samboora and Shahid Nabi Pandith, son of Ghulam Nabi Pandith of Konibal Pampore.
“After questioning of these suspects, Police and security forces have recovered incriminating material including arms and ammunition including pistol with ammunition and hand grenade from the militant associates”, police said.
“Further, the militant associates disclosed that they were in touch with active militant commanders of JeM in the area and were providing logistic support to JeM militants for propagating their acts and were providing transportation to militants,” police said, adding that a case under FIR number 161/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Pampore while further investigation is going on.
In the meantime,  Baramulla Police along Army arrested a militant associate of Lashkar e Toiba (LeT) during vehicle checking at a checkpoint at Kralhar railway crossing in Baramulla.
The check point was established after specific information about movement of a militant associate in the area. He has been identified as Faisal Ahmed Dar of Maldera Shopian. “Ten rounds of pistol were  recovered from his possession and FIR No. 271/2021 was registered at Police Station Baramulla under relevant sections of law and investigation has been taken up”, police added.
The vehicle-borne militants fired at a joint team of police and CRPF at a security check point in Soura area of Srinagar today and it was believed that a militant received injury in retaliation, an official said here.
He said that a team of police led by SP Hazratbal along with CRPF men were checking vehicles at naka point in Soura area.
“Militants fired at the joint party in which no police or CRPF men were injured. In retaliation, probably one militant received injury but escaped. We are following the vehicle-borne militant,” the official added.
