JAMMU, Nov 4: In a crackdown over the people involved in smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the holy town Katra, police today arrested five bootleggers along with large quantity of illicit liquor pouches.
As per police sources, on specific inputs, a team from Katra police station conducted a raid in Balni area and subjected an Alto K10 car bearing registration number JK20-6139 to search.
During checking, police recovered 161 pouches of illicit liquor and arrested four persons, who have been identified as Jyoti Parkash, son of Vijay Kumar, Rohit Sharma alias Biru, son of Ram Lal, Varun Sharma, son of Rameshwer, all residents of Agar Jitto and Sunny Kumar, son of Joginder Kumar Bhagat of Domail.
The accused carrying the illicit liquor pouches by packing them into rice bags were about to deliver the consignment to consumers, but Katra police foiled their attempt by arresting them and seizing the illicit liquor pouches and car.
In this regard, a case under FIR number 245/14 under Section 48-A Excise Act and 188 RPC has been registered at Katra police station and investigation started.
Meanwhile, Katra police also arrested a pedestrian along with 30 pouches of illicit liquor from Nomain area. The bootlegger has been identified as Inder Singh, son of Fattay Singh, a resident of Jakhani, district Udhampur.
A case under FIR number 244/14 under Section 48-A Excise Act and 188 RPC has been registered at Katra police station and investigation started.
Police party led by SHO Katra police station Ajay Bhatt made the arrest under the supervision of SP Katra Kulbir Singh.
