5-day meet for preparation of glossary of Agriculture in Dogri begins at JU

JAMMU, May 29: In order to disseminate the knowledge related to Agricultural Science to all its stakeholders, a five-day expert meet began today in the Department of Botany, University of Jammu, to prepare Fundamental Glossary of Agriculture in Dogri language.
The meet has been organized by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, New Delhi, in collaboration the Department of Botany, University of Jammu and SKUAST – Jammu.
Experts from various fields including linguistics, Botany, Agriculture and Dogri language from within and outside the State are participating in the said meet. The main objective of the meet is to evolve and coin novel scientific and technical terminology in Dogri to be used in agriculture, and to publish glossaries, definitional dictionaries, encyclopedia etc in Agricultural Sciences.
Assistant Director, CSTT, MHRD, New Delhi, Dr Shailender Kumar, explained that through such creative meets, the evolved terms and their definitions would reach the stakeholders including agriculturists, students, teachers, scholars, scientists, agricultural officers etc.
Earlier, Prof  Yash Pal Sharma, Head,  Department of Botany and  Co-ordinator of the meet, said that the society at large can benefit from the translated version of agricultural terms existing in English and Hindi in their own language.
Prominent experts, who are participating in the meet, are; Prof Yogi Raj Sharma (Retd. Professor, SKUAST- Jammu) , Prof  V S Verma, Division of Plant Pathology (SKUAST- Jammu), Prof  S K  Gupta, Head Division of Agro forestry, SKUAST- Jammu, Dr R  K Gupta, Division of Entomology, SKUAST, Jammu, Dr  B  S Slathia, Chhatrapal (president, Dogri Sanstha Jammu),   Romesh Atri  and Dr  Harish Dutt.
