JAMMU : At least five police personnel got injured when police-gujjars clashed in this winter capital of the State.
The police teams accompanied by the Government officials had gone to vacate 400 kanals of land encroached by Gujjars along the bank of River Tawi in Gole Gujral area.
The 400 kanals of land belonged to the State Revenue Department, Jammu Development Authority and State Department was allegedly encroached by the Gujjars by raising concrete structures and kiosks.
The officials alongwith police this evening reached the spot to vacate the encroached land but Gujjars resorted to stone pelting.
“They pelted stones at the police and other officials who had gone to vacate the encroached land,” an official here said.
He said at least five cops sustained injuries in stone pelting and they were immediately shifted to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu.
However, the protesters dispersed when the officials assured that the kiosks will not be removed but only the structures raised on the encroached land.
Meanwhile, the demolition drive continued till late evening when the last reports came in. (AGENCIES)
