JAMMU, July 7: A total 48 candidates have been left in fray for the District Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) elections in district Jammu, scheduled to be held tomorrow.
Returning Officer for the polls Sher Singh (Asstt Commissioner, Revenue) said that 70 candidates had filed their nominations for the elections in the district but after withdrawal 48 have been left in the fray.
He further disclosed that after scrutiny of the documents, the final 48 candidates were left in the race. He said the highest number of around 90,000 voters are in district Jammu and the contest will be more interesting in this district. All the security measures have been put in place for the smooth conduct of elections.
Mr Singh said 127 polling stations have been set up in 11 constituencies comprising Gadi Garh, Digiana, Bishnah, RS Pura, Kirpind Jammu West, Jammu East, Akhnoor, Marh-Gole Gujal, Nanak Nagar etc, which will undergo polling on July 8. The polling will start at 8 AM and conclude at 5 PM and the results would be declared on July 9, Mr Singh maintained.
Replying to a question, the Returning Officer said that adequate security arrangements have been made in the entire district and all the AROs/ Zonal Offices have been briefed on the security issue. Additional para-military troops have also been deployed. Nearly, 10 companies have been deployed in the district covering all the constituencies for smooth conduct of the polling, he added.
Dy Commissioner, Kathua Ajay Singh Jamwal, who is District Election Officer said that polling parties have been dispatched to respective polling stations in Kathua district for the SGPC elections being held tomorrow. He said as many as 19 polling parties for 11 constituencies comprising Zonal and Sectoral Magistrates, Presiding Officers, Polling Officers, Police parties and other staff were dispatched to their respective Polling Stations in 19 vehicles from the premises of Government Degree College, Kathua amid tight security.
