UDHAMPUR, May 2: Udhampur police today seized 45.4 kg of poppy straw from a narcotic smuggler at Chenani and arrested the accused, who was smuggling the contraband from Kashmir in a truck, driven by him
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that based on some reliable information, a police party of Police Station Chenani, led by SHO Paramjeet Singh, under the supervision of Santokh Raj Deol SDPO Chenani and Rajinder Kumar Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur, laid a naka at Motorshed, NHW, Chenani.
During the naka, one truck bearing registration number JK02AE 4341 was signalled to stop for checking. Instead of stopping the vehicle, driver of the truck broke the barriers and attempted to flee along with the vehicle from the spot. Police chased the vehicle and intercepted it at Deody Nallah Champari, NHW,Chenani. During thorough search, 45.4 kgs of poppy straw were recovered from the vehicle. The accused driver of the vehicle namely Lokesh Singh son of Daleep Singh of Hiranagar, Kathua was arrested on the spot while the truck was also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR number 51/2019 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act, 179 MV Act has been registered at PS Chenani and further investigation of the case is going on.
