90-yr-old man dies, J&K toll 24

SRINAGAR, May 26: Forty four persons tested positive in Kashmir today for Coronavirus taking the number of cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1769 with 1420 in Kashmir while one person died of COVID-19 today in the Valley.
A 90-year-old COVID-19 positive man from Kulgam district of South Kashmir today died taking the overall death toll of Coronavirus to 24 in Jammu and Kashmir.
A resident of Khaloora Kulgam, he was referred to SKIMS Soura from GMC Anantnag yesterday and breathed his last around 5:45 am today.
“The patient was suffering from pneumonia with chief complaints of fever and breathlessness,” Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS said.
He aaded that his sampling was done at around 6.30 pm yesterday and it tested positive at 9.08 pm same day. “The patient was then shifted to Isolation facility where he died this morning,” he added.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at the Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan, told Excelsior that out of the 590 samples processed at Microbiology Laboratory at CD hospital here, 25 tested positive for the virus and nine of them were repeated.
He said among all the cases, 14 were from Baramulla and include 3 pregnant women-20-year-old from Sopore, 27-year-old from Tengpora besides 35-year-old from main Baramulla-and 8 members of a family from Hardo Ichloo-8-year-old girl and 3 women aged 25, 27 and 50 years and four men aged 20, 22, 27 and 53 years-while among others include 45-year-old from Wankara, 26-year-old from Dangerpora and 29-year-old from Tangmarg. Five of the cases were reported from Bandipora and included among others 20-year-old and 24-year-old men from Sumbal and 30-year-old man from Tulail Gurez. Four cases were reported from Ganderbal and includes a pregnant woman -25-year-old and 23-year-old youth from Kangan besides 28-year-old man from Shuhama and 32-year-old from Saloora while two were from Pulwama-21-year-old youth from Armulla and 20-year-old from Telangam.
Principal SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, Dr Riyaz Untoo, told Excelsior that out of 471 samples processed, 19 tested positive and include 12 from Budgam out of which 11 are men and one woman aged 20, 25, 27, 31, 32, 40, 42, 42, 44, 50 and 42 respectively-seven of them are from Magam, four from Soibug and one Narbal- six from Srinagar are five women and one man aged 17, 30, 38, 50 and 52 include three from Alamgiri Bazar and two from Hawal.He said three among the positive cases were passengers of flight from Dubai. “Out of 155 passengers, 3 samples tested positive,” he said. Among them, one each is from Narbal Budgam and Srinagar.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan, told Excelsior that among the 1325 samples were processed today and 10 tested positive. Out of these cases, four are from Baramulla, 3 from Kupwara, 2 from Shopian and one from Budgam.
Those from Baramulla include two men, one boy and a woman aged 48, 30, 15 and 28 from Hanjiveera, Hanjiveera, Pazipora and Hanjiveera respectively. Those from Kupwara include three men aged 22, 23 and 24 are from Watergam, Handwara and Handwara respectively. Two women aged 25 and 34 are from Vehil Shopian. The Budgam positive is a man aged 25 from Khospora.
So far Anantnag has 278 COVID-19 patients, highest in all districts, followed by Kulgam 228, Srinagar 189, Kupwara 169, Bandipora 143, Baramulla 147, Shopian 131, Budgam 77, Ganderbal 31 and Pulwama 28.
The officials said till date 142901 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 32714 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 62 in Hospital Quarantine, 902 in hospital isolation and 33573 home surveillance. Besides, 75626 persons have completed their surveillance period.
