MENDHAR, Aug 20: Forty one Govt schools located near the Line of Control in Balakote, Mendhar and Mankote area of Poonch are lying closed for the last five days in view of Pakistani shelling.
Sources said that 28 Government schools including a Higher Secondary and two High Schools are lying closed for the last five days in Balakote block, nine in Mendhar and four in Mankote area. Due to constant shelling by Pakistani troops, the villagers along with their children have moved to the safer areas. Moreover, there is terror among the people. The studies of the children are badly hit with the shelling.
DC Poonch NA Wani when contacted said that safety of the children is more important. There is every risk of shelling anytime. Till Monday, there is no hope of opening of schools. If the situation improved the schools will be allowed to function. Otherwise, these students will be shifted to other make shift schools in safer zones, he added.
